November 29, 2017 Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn of Thailand visited St. Nicholas Cathedral in Bangkok. The meeting ceremony was led by archimandrite Oleg Cherepanin, the Representative of the Russian Orthodox Church (Moscow Patriarchate) in Thailand, dean of the Patriarchal parishes in the Kingdom, and rector of St. Nicholas Cathedral. “We are happy to welcome Your Royal Highness to the Orthodox Church in Bangkok, where we offer daily prayers for Your Highness and for the entire Royal House of Thailand … By the russian tradition, please accept this bread & salt as a symbol of our deepest respect … Enter this church, Your Royal Highness, not as a guest, but as the mother and patroness of Orthodox believers in Thailand…” fr. Oleg said welcoming Her Royal Highness at the gate of the cathedral.
At the meeting of Her Royal Highness participated also: archpriest Daniel Danai Wanna, Chairman of Orthodox Christian Church in Thailand Foundation, rector of All-Saints church in Pattaya; protopresbyter Joseph Fester, temporary cleric of St. Nicholas Cathedral in Bangkok; hieromonk Seraphim Vasiliev, acting rector of St. Seraphim church on Pha-ngan Island; hieromonk Paisiy Ipate, director of Spiritual Formation at OCT College in Phuket; priest Ivan Morozov, acting rector of Holy Protection of Theotokos church in Pattaya; hieromonk Alexander Vaschenko, rector of the Holy Royal Martyrs church in Huahin; priest Alexei Golovin, rector of Holy Ascension church on Samui Island; priest Roman Bychkov, rector of the Holy Trinity church in Phuket; priest Sergiy Shapkin, acting rector of St. Sergius church on Chang Island; priest Andrey Ivashchenko, rector of St. Vladimir church in Chiang Mai; hieromonk Micah Tongkham Phiaxayavong, cleric of St. Nicholas Cathedral; deacon Constantine Ivashchenko, cleric of St. Nicholas Cathedral; students of the OCT College in Phuket.
Her Royal Highness was accompanied by Mr. Kirill Barsky, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Russia to Thailand, and the cadets of the Royal Military Academy.
Before the beginning of the service, the choir of St. Nicholas Cathedral under the baton of Vadim Marshalkovsky performed the Royal Anthem of Thailand, after which archpriest Daniel Danai Wanna briefly introduced Her Royal Highness and all those present with the history and today situation of Orthodoxy in the Kingdom of Thailand.
Her Royal Highness personally light the candles in front of the icons, after which the Vespers was performed. Upon completion of the service, Her Royal Highness presented archimandrite Oleg Cherepanin with a memorable souvenir. On behalf of the Russian Orthodox Church and His Holiness Kirill, Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia, fr. Oleg presented Her Royal Highness an icon of the Holy Royal Martyrs Tsar Nicholas and his family and a pair of jewelry candlesticks made in Russia.
After general photo session Her Royal Highness left the cathedral. At parting Her Royal Highness noted the beautiful singing of the cathedral choir, the artistic execution of the church murals and the beauty of the church ringing.
